Weekly Photograph - Alley Skyrise

21.08.06 @ 8:27 pm
Alley Skyrise

The second this scene caught my eye, I knew I had to shoot it. My wife and I were downtown taking photos when we came across this alley. I still cannot believe how amazingly contrasty and moody the scene was. I took about 5 or 6 shots - this shot does not capture the mood as well as others, but I enjoyed the perspective this photo gives of the scene. The film I shoot with is known for how much saturation it produces so this should give you an idea of how dark and grey this building was. Truly awesome.

The city of San Francisco continues to keep me on my toes with scenes like this. I have no doubt that any metropolitan area has just as many interesting nooks and crannies, but after 9 years in this city, I still feel like I am a newcomer. This photo reminds me of how much there still is for me to see in this city.

That. Is. Awesome. Which camera was it shot with? Geez I really need to get out and take more photos.

  3. Thanks guys, I’m really glad you like it.

Kellie - What size do you want? I can go get the slide enlarged this weekend (I am being very serious here). ;)

Jon - This was shot with my old Nikon again. I got three rolls taken from this camera developed a couple weeks ago, so I am slowly scanning and processing those slides and using them for my weekly photos. After I am done with this group of slides, I’ll probably take some shots with the Canon.

It’s amazing what you find once you start walking around the city with your camera! ;) The picture turned out fabulous - good eye. I can’t wait to finish up my roll from that day too :)

  7. […] As I described in my previous weekly photo, I have still only scratched the surface of San Francisco in the nine years I have lived there. The Presidio signifies a extremely large chunk of area that is quite virgin to me. What I love from the small amount I have seen of that area is the amazing diversity in old, new and untouched. I am not much of a nature photographer, but I am in awe of what Chris Honeysett has captured within the confines of the Presidio. I strongly believe that I am going to be spending more time in the area of the city - I really am looking forward to seeing the photos that come from it.
